About: In Brief

A repository for deconstructing beliefs, a catalogue of conceptual models, a warehouse for speculative ideas, a greenhouse of experiments, a microcosm of remembered fragments. (At least, that’s what I’d like it to be someday.) See here for the full website with my full about page, popular posts, archive, and contact page.

About: In Full

What I write about

I’m interested in an eclectic mixture of topics, including: using language to expand thinking, how cities work, planning as escapist self-care, signalling theory, increments and compounding, preserving memories, deconstructing and consciously reshaping narratives, books with the potential to change one’s comprehension of the world, deriving different kinds of values from books, creating momentum through lists, organizing information, experimenting with habit systems, mental models, meta-thinking, deliberate discomfort, asking better questions, quitting social media, maps, frameworks for understanding people, perceptions of the self, and rituals.

There’s no particular theme to the posts on my site, they’re just the outcome of curiosity and incessant reading. However, to use some generic categories, common themes include books, creativity, productivity, people, and trying to be better. Some topics, such as minimalism, can be found in the archives but I don’t touch on them anymore.

How I write

I constantly collect notes about things I learn, things I try, things I want to improve, things I’m trying to understand, and things that I don’t understand - often written as letters to myself. Sometimes they seem like they might be of interest to others, so I share them here, edited.

Please remember that anything I write that seems like advice or instructions was originally directed at myself, so it might not make sense for you or reflect your experience. My basic assumption is always that you're smart and mature enough to recognise when that's the case. So I don't feel the need to slather every post with caveats and try to make it applicable to everyone.

The nature of how I write means that my posts are part of the process of thinking, they’re not finished thoughts. As a result, I might contradict older posts, or they may not longer reflect my views. Old posts might be badly written or embarrassing to read and I try to be okay with that because it means I’ve improved.

About Me: In Brief

Hi, I’m Rosie. My surname is pronounced something like ‘Lay-zuh-roh-vich’. I’m from Tel Aviv, lived in the UK for 16 years, and currently reside in Berlin, Germany. My day job is as a content strategist at Farnam Street, where I’ve worked for the last two years. I’m 23 years old. I enjoy books, photographing people, and making lists. You can follow me on Twitter or Medium, connect with me on Linkedin, friend me on Goodreads, or contact me here.

Why subscribe?

I use Substack to send out sporadic emails including new things I’ve written, life updates, pictures I’ve taken, stuff I like, and maybe some other things. You might want to subscribe if you like what I write and want to keep in touch.

Postcards

If you’d like to receive a handwritten postcard from me, hit reply to any of my emails and send your full mailing address including the country.

I’ll delete your address as soon as I’ve sent the card. My only agenda in doing this is that it’s fun and, well, see here. Please don’t abuse this - it’s something I put a lot of time and money into and I don’t personally profit in any way. Also, please don’t expect to immediately receive a postcard. Mail services are slower than usual everywhere right now and lockdowns make trips to the post office more complicated for me. Thank you.
